Jan earned degrees in nursing from UNC-Charlotte and UNC-Chapel Hill and for decades has worked in primary care with children and their parents. Jan  studied the work of the renowned Harvard pediatrician, Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, and became certified in both his Touchpoints program and his Newborn Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). She taught family physician residents at UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Family Medicine and developed lactation and parenting programs at SAS Health Care Center (Cary, NC). She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a well-received speaker both in the USA and internationally.

In 2013-2014 Jan and her husband, Jim, completed the HUG Your Baby International Teaching Tour where they taught at nursing schools, lactation institutes and professional conferences in fourteen countries around the world.

Current Clinical Practice:

Jan now works as a private lactation consultant and parent coach, seeing patients at family’s homes, in her office and via Skype.
